Philosophy & Vision
Dr Catherine Deans is a warm empathic Clinical Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor who has great admiration for the courage it can take to seek help. She views therapy as a collaborative process between patient and therapist, in which respect, empathy, insight and relational experiences are key ingredients to change. Catherine has clinical experience in assisting people experiencing significant and often longstanding difficulties, including depression, struggles with self-worth, anxiety, PTSD, ongoing relationship difficulties and interpersonal struggles, grief and loss, and coping with significant life transitions. She has a deep appreciation for the suffering inflicted by experiences of trauma, and the complexity of the impact on sense of self, self-worth, trust in relationships, and sense of meaning in life. Catherine's approach is anchored in compassion and she values authenticity, curiosity, courage and openness.
Background
Catherine has gained experience across both public healthcare and private practice, and she also contributes to educating the next generation of clinical psychologists through her work teaching into the Clinical Masters Program at University level. She strives to assist people to identify and address any underlying maladaptive patterns in order to prevent recurrence of symptoms, and to find and utilize their existing inner strengths for long term emotional health and flourishing. She tailors treatment to each unique individual, and draws from a variety of approaches including psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr Catherine Deans offers both in-person and Telehealth adult therapy sessions, and clinical supervision sessions.

Catherine underwent her undergraduate and postgraduate training in psychology at Macquarie University, she is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a Board Approved Supervisor, and a Member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Catherine has published research work and presented both nationally and internationally, and is passionate about life long learning.
