Philosophy & Vision
Become free of your pain. Get relationship & sex counselling that works based on 50 years of research. Relationship coaching for singles can help you develop happy & healthy relationships. Couples coaching can help you reconnect to the intimacy & love you once had. I have many tools to help you become connected whilst staying protected because I've worked with people from diverse backgrounds since 1981. I'm an accredited sex therapist with ASSERT & accredited clinical supervisor with PACFA.
Background
I worked as a naturopath/counsellor/crisis & group worker in a women's refuge & in Leichhardt Women's Community Health Centre from 1981-1986. Since 1987 I have been in private practice & continued my personal development through study, personal work & using an integral approach to self-care. I am a registered therapist & supervisor with PACFA & am a certified sex therapist with ASSERT. I have supervised counsellors & psychotherapists for many years, was an educator at the Australian College of Applied Psychology & taught supervision at the University of Canberra. Many of my clients are counsellors, psychologists and social workers. They say I'm a "therapist's therapist" :)
Services
My greatest joy comes from helping you have happier & more successful relationships at home, at work & within your social connections. I openly discuss your expectations & goals to help you discover the best ways to deal with the challenges in your life. I help you harness your abilities & your preferred ideas of working to co-create a tailor-made treatment plan with you. Together we create a roadmap to help you steadily work towards your goals. Thirty years of meta-analytic studies show that you, the client, contribute 87% towards successful outcomes in therapy. You are hiring me to help you get where you want to go. Please read my page on Your Theory of Change for further details about my approach https://rb.gy/q5k84

Therapy Approach
30 years of meta-analytic studies by Bruce Wampold shows that as long as a therapist provides a coherent, cogent & structured treatment which makes sense to the client, all models of therapy contribute less than 1% to the outcomes of therapy. The biggest contributor (87%) is the client & their supports outside of therapy. Next comes the therapist's ability (4-9%) to create a working collaboration with the client & getting an agreement on their goals for therapy. The therapeutic approaches within the integrative framework I use include:
* Psychodynamic
* Humanistic/ Gestalt/ Experiential
* Cognitive-behavioural
* Somatic
* Existential/Transpersonal.

A conversation with Vivian Baruch

I've had a life-long fascination with what makes people tick. Growing up in a dysfunctional family with a father who had PTSD/complex trauma, I've always searched for the ingredients of a successful relationship and family.
-
For over 20 years I've focused on a Client Directed Outcome Informed approach devised by Scott D. Miller & Barry L. Duncan. This puts the client in the driver's seat of their therapy. My philosophy is that the client is hiring me here to help them tease out their theory of change. These are their own theories about their problems, how they developed and how to solve them. As an integrative therapist, I've been influenced by humanistic, Buddhist and Stoic philosophies, systems thinking and body-mind-spirit approaches to healing.
-
Integrating body, emotions, mind & spirit to enhance overall health & social wellbeing. I take a biopsychosocial spiritual approach to the human journey.

In the first few sessions they should see on their Outcome Rating Scale (https://rb.gy/q5k84) that they are on track towards feeling better. If by the 6th session there is no visible improvement, despite getting their written feedback at the end of every session about our work together, it's my responsibility have a deeper discussion. I explore with them what I'm not understanding about their issue & work with them to see how I need to adapt my approach to better suit their hopes for improvement.

Helping others achieve healing & find confidence & clarity in their life choices is my guiding purpose. Therapy provides a safe & structured way to offer compassion & find a deeper meaning behind the human suffering we all experience.
-
Same as for 6.
-
Of course. I'm human. That's where I'm given more of an opportunity to practice what I'm teaching.
-
Loss of meaning/purpose & disconnection from others.
