Philosophy & Vision
I had lived in three continents and experienced many occupations including IT consultant and business system analysis and chair of a primary school when I realised that I was desperately unhappy.
I Joined Lifline and trained as a counsellor and then devloped and ran men's anger management groups with them.
I became passionate about helping myself and others understand more about why we do what we do - and how to change if we chose to.

I reached a critical time in my life when I was not sure how to carry on. I joined Lifeline as a trainee telephone counsellor, and their training taught me how to listen to others (and myself) with empathy. I became a telephone and face to face counsellor, and went on to train other counsellors and design and facilitate Lifeline's Mens Anger Management groups. Exchanging heartfelt experiences with the men in these groups was fundamental to my decision to become a professional in this area.
During this time my new wife and I joined Free To Be Me, a group which taught us about ourselves as a couple, and I found this experience deeply moving and helpful in understanding the dynamics of close relationships and how to make these more loving. -
In our daily lives, we can feel stressed, anxious, frustrated and angry. We face crises causing us to make difficult choices.
We may ask ourselves “Is this all there is to life?â€. “Why is it so hard?â€
Existential psychotherapy focuses on freedom of choice in shaping one's own life and teaches that self-awareness is a vital to answering these questions. The uniqueness of everyone's life forms his/her own personality, starting from infancy.
Existential therapy acknowledges the power of this early conditioning and focuses on its effects on our present and future lives. The therapist helps clients understand that they are free to see new possibilities in their future.
They challenge adult clients to recognise that they themselves are now responsible for the choices in their life and consequently blaming anyone else for their pain leaves them powerless to move towards the happiness they desire.
Conscious awareness is key to becoming mentally healthier and stronger. This therapeutic approach emphasises our ability to make choices that are not dictated by heredity or past conditioning. In this way over time an individual can rewire their neural pathways to become the person they long to be.
Due to subconscious early conditioning clients may not understand why they have problems achieving their adult needs and desires, and instead make decisions based on the influences of family, society and peers. This can result in painful inner conflict, unhappiness and feelings of powerlessness. Existential therapy helps the client to find their own authority and thus be more authentically grown up.
They can become the authors of their own lives.
Therapists help people to understand the experiences of their lives through deep personal reflection and subsequent action. They respect the client's emotions, beliefs, and talents and help them find their own meanings and truths.
The benefit of existential therapy is that it helps people to clarify and choose their own way of being in the world and thereby live richer and more meaningful lives.
