Philosophy & Vision
Each person has their own underlying source of wisdom. I see counselling as the art of creating sufficient healing and harmony within, that this wisdom becomes available. It is the client's curiosity and need to know and heal, that drives the counselling process. My role is to offer whatever relational support and interventions are appropriate, to enable them to find their own internal guidance. This involves inviting a healthy dose of acceptance and awareness into the room. Certain issues are locked in the body. To address these things a somatic approach is necessary.
Background
I am presently working an Asylum Seeker and Refugee Counsellor in Footscray. Prior to this I worked as an Elder Abuse counsellor in West Footscray. Before this I worked as a counsellor for the Kirketon Road Centre in Kings Cross (Sydney). I have worked for Neami National (Mental Health Outreach Support). I have also worked with Children experiencing grief and loss. In this context I have had extensive on-going training in the realm of trauma healing. I have been involved with experiential psychotherapy and meditation practice as a seeker, client and facilitator since the late 1970's. I have been working as a clinical supervisor for the last two years. I am Trained to Level 2 in Deep Brain Reorienting, a profound somatic approach.
Services
I have studied various approaches to healing and trauma. Each person is different and requires a unique approach. My intention as a counsellor and a supervisor is to help people move through those matters that cloud our vision, that we may access that source of wisdom that is inherent in everyone. I have recently trained to Level 2 in Deep Brain Reorienting, a profound somatic approach to releasing trauma and shock.
Quality Provision
I am a Level 4 member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). On-going Clinical Supervision and on-going Professional Development is an intrinsic part of being a member of the ACA. I am also trained as a Counselling Supervisor and am a Member of the ACA's College of Supervisors.

Therapy Approach
With every person I work with I am interested in creating a situation in which whatever issues that are presented become the basis for a journey of personal discovery and awakening. I see healing and a deepening of consciousness as going hand in hand. I often, but not only, use 'parts work' to facilitate this process. I am well versed in multiple disciplines and tailor my responses according to the unique needs of each client. I also use a somatic approach called Deep Brain Reorienting, which works well to clear trauma and shock.

I was blessed to have an existential crisis at a very early age. It threw me into doubting all that I had been educated to believe was meaningful and true. The outcome of this was that I began a high-octane search for a truth that was authentic and substantial. Experiential psychotherapy and meditation, together proved to be perfect allies in my search. As they worked for me, so I became motivated to share what I have learned (unlearned?) with others.
-
I am ultimately an existential therapist. In one way or another we are on a philosophic quest, as well as a psychological one. In this context I have learned to respect multiple therapeutic approaches. Narrative therapy can be helpful. Experiential approaches can help to bring the journey of healing and increased consciousness to body, heart and mind. I am impressed with the advances made in understanding and healing trauma and have educated myself accordingly. I am convinced that trauma can be best worked with by gently releasing it from the body. To do this I use Deep Brain Reorienting as my modality of choice.
-
I am interested that the journey of health and healing morphs into a quest for truth and meaning, as well as a way of transforming woundedness into growth. I am interested in approaches that honour the whole human being. The body and the heart hold the keys to healing as much as the mind does.
-
I am grounded in an existentialist approach. I am well versed in parts work (Voice Dialogue), body-based psychotherapy, narrative approaches, contemporary trauma work and mindfulness/meditation. I have recently trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (Level 2). It is my somatic intervention of choice when working with different types of trauma. It is gentle, mostly non-verbal and well-researched.

As life becomes more meaningful and a person becomes more open and self-reliant, so my work is done. When the obstacles in our psyche move and life flows again, we will naturally experience less of a need for counselling.
-
Psychotherapy and meditation together have made me infinitely more happy in myself and with the world around me. It has given me a deeper trust in my skills, capacities and sense of self-worth.
-
To be a therapist is a privilege. Each therapy session is a sacred space of trust that opens windows into truth that don't always open easily elsewhere. I am constantly left in wonder at the courage, resilience, creativity and uniqueness of human beings. Being a therapist helps me to love life. It deepens my sense of wonder.
-
I do. Everyone does. When I do, life is challenging me to walk my talk.
-
To live in a world that is off kilter in a way that is sane, is no mean feat. We live in a world that is full of stressors. Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to heal our wounds and find approaches to living that enable us to be aware, intelligent and self-respectful, even when the environment around us is testing.
