A conversation with Leigh Fraser-Gray
-
I survived childhood trauma. I now assist others to move from a sense of powerlessness and distress through to surviving and then thriving. I specialise in recovery based transformation processes.
-
I do not try and 'fix' anyone.... I don't believe they are broken. I do however believe in a strengths based, person centred approach to best support the individual to feel empowered and become their 'best selves'.
-
Neuro science or psycho neuro therapy is now at the basis of my practice framework. Brain chemistry never lies! I assist individuals and groups to understand their neuro chemistry through psycho education.
-
Talk therapy. I place the person at the centre of their own self determining journey. I often use psycho education to help everyone better understand themselves and their situation. I am an ASD/LGBT+ ally.
-
Some of my people suggest this process can happen immediately. For others, the journey takes a while to come together. Many people feel the therapeutic alliance connection is just right and feel better quickly.
-
Recovery from childhood trauma has been an on going process. I was able to develop self esteem as an adult and move through an intense and debilitating feelings of shame. Once I FELT and KNEW better, I also acted better. Hurt people can hurt other people, even without realising or knowing it.... I understand this process of recovery from a lived experienced and now use my professional skills and 26+ years of qualified experience to guide others through their own process of clarification and understanding.
-
Facilitating the changes in perspective to allow an individual or groups to be able to move through a sense of immobilisation or confusion and start to make sense of their current or past experiences.
-
WE ALL DO!!! Its why on going self care is essential. It takes time to build up reserves to show signs of resilience. I assist my people to understand bio (biological), psycho (psychological) and social influences on the individual. Mental illness is not a random occurrence. Neurologically we all get worn down. It takes time to build up our reserves and become resilient. I assist people to chart a course towards self efficacy.
-
Isolation. I do wonder if its easy to feel disconnected. I specialise in helping everyone to understand how they are responding to their circumstances or experiences or situation in life and feel more in control.
-
Its ever changing. I do however prefer to live in a world where we express ourselves through the arts. I encourage all my people to bring what inspires them into the therapy experience to explore their situation.
