Philosophy & Vision
My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can explore difficulties you may be experiencing and overcome the barriers that may be holding you back in life. Counselling with a psychologist can help you develop more effective ways to cope and to learn new skills to break unhelpful behavioural patterns. When you believe that change is possible it encourages and enables you to lead a happier and more empowered life.

A conversation with Laurie Brotherstone

Why we act, feel, and think the way we do and how different that can be from other people around us fascinated me. Helping people understand themselves and others can reduce the conflict and stress in our lives and help people move towards what is important to them.
I always gravitated to work that involved helping people and becoming a psychologist enabled me to train professionally in a field so I knew what I was doing was evidence based and could really help to change people's lives and help. -
That I am definitely not the 'expert' trying to fix people. Rather I try to use the knowledge and experience I have gained to work with people so they can make the changes and develop the skills they need to create a rich and meaningful life for themselves. It is about empowering people in their life choices.

I am interested in working with people with some of the most comment presenting issues such as anxiety, depression, and difficulties in relationships.
I particularly enjoy working with men with anger issues or problems communicating with their partner's or family. The changes they can make is life changing and can lead to so many positive outcomes for themselves and their families. -
I have a client focused way of working so it is always guided by what the client has come to see for, what their needs are, and what therapies I feel will work the best for them.
I use a combination of therapies that include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which explores the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Motivational Interviewing to help promote change; Schema Therapy for overcoming childhood issues; and Solution Focused Therapies. -
Often after the first few sessions client will already start to feel some relief from sharing their story, clarifying what they need
