A conversation with Katie Watson

I have been interested in human behaviour since I was a young girl. However it wasn't until I had many years of life experiences that I felt counselling was my true calling. I worked in aged care and it was they who encouraged me to go and get my degree. I haven't looked back since.
-
Definitely client centred as we are the experts in our own lives and the relationship between the counsellor and client is paramount for effective therapy.
Also CBT as this is an approach I find works for most people, I also like to incorporate Mindfulness in my sessions of CBT. -
I use an integrated approach because no person is the same as the next. I base my approach on the client and their needs. The most common is CBT and MiCBT.
-
I feel that when the client starts noticing changes in their behaviour they will feel it is progressing.
-
Therapy has made me understand human behaviour better and realise that we all experience issues in our lives, we are not alone in this,
-
The thing I like most about being a therapist is seeing my clients have that moment where they feel like they are not alone and they can see how things can change for them.
-
Of course! I am human after all. Some days I will second guess myself but I know after taking a minute to regroup that I've got this and we are all human.
-
We have forgotten to take care of ourselves. We have become so busy with working, studying and social media that we forget to breathe and take a moment to look after ourselves.

I am a really big fan of the 90's English band Blur and the song 'Tender' has always inspired me. If you look at the lyrics you can probably guess why ("I need to find someone to heal my mind"). This is the song that calms my mind.
