Background
As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I combine the knowledge gained from extensive professional training, as well as with my own personal experiences with mental health conditions to provide my client's with a personal and caring approach to therapy.
I'm also a mum of 3 young children, so I understand the ups and downs, twists and turns of parenthood, as well as the many challenges children can experience. Being a parent can be tough! Watching your child, or children, struggle is stressful, exhausting, heart-breaking.
For this reason I use research-driven, family-focused therapy approaches to build strength, resilience and growth of children, parents and the whole family unit.

After an incredibly rewarding career in Medical Research and Cardiology, I experienced a severe emotional and physical breakdown, which was in part due to unaddressed mental health issues stemming from childhood which snowballed with each year. While making my way through the maze that was my mind, I made the decision to change my life direction and follow a path that was more aligned with who I am and what I care about most. Which is helping others, so they don't have to struggle in silence, and alone.

Person-centred therapy and attachment theory have been very influential in my personal and professional development.
Attachment theory greatly assisted me to understand more about myself, and who I was, by looking into my own childhood and experiences as an adolescent. It has also greatly influenced how I am as a parent to my 3 young kiddo's.
We go through so many transitions throughout our childhood and adulthood, and in the modern world we are often expected to do this alone, or with very little support, and often quietly.
We are social and very complex beings. -
Absolutely everything!!
From a medical, and psychological perspective, the human body and mind have always amazed me!

I enjoy using a holistic and client-centered approach to help identify and harness each client's strengths and develop a range of strategies to build confidence, resilience, assertiveness and growth.
All approaches are evidence-based therapeutic techniques including Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectable-Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) (often referred to as Tapping), and Mindfulness-Based Therapy.

This varies from client to client and it depends on the severity of a client's situation.
In saying this, I think client's often feel that progress is made in the very first session, because they have made an appointment and show up! This in itself is progress.
Furthermore, I strive to create an environment that feels safe and supportive. One that is full of care, hope, compassion, respect and empowerment. For this reason I feel that client's leave our first session feeling hope, often for the first time in a long time. -
Becoming a therapist, receiving counselling myself and attending regular supervision has definitely made me a better, and more grounded person, and a much better mum!
For most of my life, I lived with mental health struggles in silence, and it had a very big impact on my personal and professional life. Once I was able to acknowledge this, receive long-term therapy and take advantage of my love of studying and professional development, I knew that my experiences and learned skills could be used to help others experiencing similar struggles. -
Meeting so many incredible people!
I love supporting people, and helping each person discover the many strengths they already possess, and teach them a few new tools, so they can live a happier, healthier and fulfilling life!
I also love how much I learn from every client I see, and get the opportunity to be real with people in a deep and personal way. That connection with another person is rejuvenating and rewarding. -
OMG YES!! Every day hahaha!!
-
Social pressures, unrealistic expectations of who we should be and how we should be.
We also place huge pressure on ourselves.
When we ease ourselves of these burdens we open ourselves up to being calmer, relaxed, and being able to enjoy the simple (yet wonderful!) joys of life. -
It isn't a book, film, song, event or work of art that inspires me the most.
It's my best friend, Juls.
She loved me and saw something special inside of me when no one else could.
She believed in me, even when I would give up on myself, or lose hope.
She saved me more times than I can remember.
The world lost the most incredible woman when she lost her battle with breast cancer at 35, at a time when her life was in many ways just beginning.
I miss her so much every single day, but am so very grateful for her friendship over two decades, and the incredible memories I hold deep within my heart.
To Infinity and Beyond!
