I transitioned to psychotherapy from a background in cognitive psychology, anthropology, and applied neuroscience due to my profound passion for helping individuals overcome psychological suffering. My extensive research on human emotions in cognitive psychology and anthropology deepened my fascination with human emotional expression across cultures. This ignited my dedication to caring for people experiencing emotional distress, driven by a belief in their capacity for resilience and self-discovery in the face of life's challenges.
-
A diverse range of philosophical approaches has shaped my professional and personal development. Initially, during my undergraduate and master's studies in Italy, I was deeply influenced by Jungian psychology. This foundation provided me with a rich understanding of the human psyche. Subsequently, my exploration led me to the fields of neuroscience and anthropology, broadening my perspective on human behaviour and emotions.
However, a pivotal moment in my journey was the discovery of Internal Family Systems (IFS), which revolutionized my approach to therapy. IFS illuminated the incredible power of the Self and its effectiveness in guiding my clients towards healing and self-discovery. It has since become my preferred therapeutic approach.
Moreover, my professional interests extend to disability advocacy and assisting individuals in achieving fulfilling lives despite societal challenges. I'm committed to helping them realize their aspirations and goals.
In couples therapy, I am exceptionally fascinated with the potential for individuals to learn communication from their Selves, fostering solid relationships and deeper intimacy. These philosophical influences collectively shape my approach, emphasizing the importance of self-discovery, resilience, and meaningful connections in the therapeutic process. -
I am deeply passionate about exploring specific aspects of health and the human journey that are intrinsically tied to my work with Internal Family Systems (IFS) theory and creative therapeutic approaches.
First and foremost, I am keenly interested in the concept of Self-energy within the IFS framework. Understanding and harnessing the innate wisdom and healing potential of an individual's Self-energy is at the core of my work. This vital component guides the process of personal growth and healing, and I am dedicated to helping clients reconnect with and strengthen their Self-energy.
In particular, I focus on clients with severe trauma, including PTSD and CPTSD. These individuals often experience a fragmentation of their internal system, with various parts carrying burdens and trauma. My interest lies in helping them rediscover their Self-energy and facilitating the harmonious interaction of their internal parts. This integration is pivotal for healing and achieving a sense of wholeness.
I also extend this focus to clients dealing with mood disorders. Exploring the connections between emotions, parts, and Self-energy is crucial in understanding and addressing mood-related challenges. It's about enabling individuals to recognize and navigate their emotional landscape more effectively.
Furthermore, within couple therapy, my interest pertains to the intricate dynamics of human communication of emotions and the interplay of parts in relationships. Creative methods foster better understanding and empathy between partners, ultimately contributing to healthier and more harmonious connections.
In summary, my particular areas of interest revolve around Self-energy, its role in the healing journey of clients with severe trauma and mood disorders, and its relevance in improving human communication of emotions within the context of couple therapy. These aspects are at the heart of my therapeutic approach, guided by the principles of IFS and creative techniques. -
In my therapeutic practice, I draw from diverse methodologies to provide comprehensive and tailored support to my clients. Central to my approach is the Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework, which delves deep into the inner world of individuals, focusing on the relationships between their core Self-energy and the various parts within their internal system.
I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is instrumental in helping clients cultivate psychological flexibility, increase self-awareness, and align their actions with their values. This approach is precious in addressing anxiety, depression, and thinking, as it encourages clients to acknowledge their thoughts and emotions while striving to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Somatic therapy is another essential component of my practice, and I use it within the IFS modality. Indeed, Somatic therapy enables clients to process and release bodily-held trauma and tension by exploring the connection between the body and the mind. This approach can be particularly effective in treating individuals with severe trauma, including those dealing with PTSD and CPTSD.
Polyvagal-informed therapy is another valuable addition to my therapeutic toolbox. This approach helps clients regulate their nervous system, promoting safety and emotional well-being. It is especially beneficial for individuals struggling with emotional dysregulation and the aftereffects of traumatic experiences.
Eriksonian hypnosis rounds out my repertoire, allowing me to leverage the power of suggestion and the unconscious mind to support clients in achieving their therapeutic goals. This versatile approach can be applied to various issues, from overcoming phobias to managing pain and stress.
By integrating these methodologies with IFS and creative therapeutic techniques, I create a holistic and individualized approach to therapy. This approach caters to diverse needs, including clients with severe trauma, mood disorders, and relationship challenges. I aim to guide individuals on their journeys of self-discovery, healing, and personal growth, using a rich and varied toolkit to address their specific needs and goals. -
In the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model context, the client's perception of progress varies depending on their circumstances and the specific therapy goals. Progress typically begins to manifest when the client experiences a few critical developments within the IFS framework:
1. **Awareness and Understanding:** Initially, progress often starts with the client gaining a deeper awareness and understanding of their internal system, which includes the roles and dynamics of their various parts. They can unravel the complexity of their inner world as they learn to differentiate between different parts and recognize certain parts' protective functions.
2. **Self-Leadership:** Progress is often evident when clients strengthen their relationship with their core Self-energy. This involves enhancing their ability to lead their internal system with compassion, wisdom, and self-empowerment. Clients may exhibit more self-leadership by making decisions that align with their values and intentions.
3. **Part Harmony:** As clients continue to work with the IFS model, they may notice a shift towards greater harmony and cooperation among their internal parts. This harmony signifies progress, indicating that previously conflicting or protective parts are beginning to communicate and collaborate more effectively. Such cooperation can result in reduced internal conflicts and increased self-acceptance.
4. **Symptom Reduction:** One of the most tangible indicators of progress is the reduction of symptoms related to the client's challenges, whether trauma, mood disorders, or other issues. As clients work through their parts and address the underlying emotional wounds, they may observe fewer symptoms, such as decreased anxiety, improved mood, and enhanced emotional regulation.
5. **Improved Relationships:** Progress may also become evident when clients report improved relationships with others. The insights gained through IFS can lead to healthier interactions as clients better understand their triggers and responses and learn how to communicate their needs more effectively.
6. **Enhanced Self-Compassion:** Another sign of progress is when clients demonstrate greater self-compassion. They may become more accepting of themselves, their flaws, and their past experiences. This self-compassion is fundamental to healing and growth within the IFS framework.
Of course, these progress indicators can vary significantly among clients. Factors such as the severity of their challenges, their commitment to the therapeutic process, and the client(s) willingness to engage with their internal system are all factors that will impact the progress. Progress is a dynamic journey, and each individual's pace of change is unique. -
Therapy, especially with the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, has been a truly transformative experience. It's not just about my clients' growth; it has also profoundly impacted my journey. It's a mutual process of learning and development that deepens my insight into human nature and the complexities of the human mind. Here's how therapy, and IFS in particular, has contributed to my personal growth:
1. **Heightened Empathy:** Collaborating with clients who have faced severe trauma, mood disorders, and life's various challenges has significantly expanded my capacity for empathy. Witnessing their struggles and achievements has deepened my understanding of the human experience and the resilience of the human spirit.
2. **Self-Exploration:** Guiding clients through their self-discovery journeys has also prompted me to engage in self-reflection. It serves as a reminder that personal growth is an ongoing process, and the valuable tools I share with my clients are equally beneficial for my self-improvement.
3. **Enhanced Communication:** IFS, with its focus on the communication of emotions and parts, has improved my therapeutic skills and enhanced my communication abilities in personal relationships. It fosters better listening, empathetic understanding, and constructive dialogue.
4. **Self-Compassion:** As I assist clients in developing self-compassion, I've also learned to extend this kindness and understanding towards myself. It's vital to maintaining emotional well-being and resilience in a demanding field like therapy.
5. **Holistic Understanding:** My immersion in IFS and other therapeutic modalities has provided me with a more holistic understanding of the human psyche and the body-mind connection. This knowledge has broadened my perspective on health and personal growth.
6. **Strengthened Resilience:** Witnessing the transformative power of IFS in clients' lives has reinforced my belief in the human capacity for change and healing. This has bolstered my resilience and determination to support clients through their own journeys.
Ultimately, therapy, particularly through the lens of IFS, has been a deeply enriching journey. It's enhanced my effectiveness as a therapist and nurtured qualities like compassion, self-awareness, and empathy within me. This experience has broadened my horizons, professionally and personally, and it's an ongoing process of growth that aligns with each client's distinctive path." -
What I appreciate most about being a therapist is the chance to witness and be part of the positive changes in people's lives. It's genuinely fulfilling as I see clients gain self-awareness, heal from past challenges, develop strategies, and find greater well-being.
Therapy is a journey we embark on together, and it's a space for mutual growth. My clients' resilience, insights, and unique experiences continuously enrich my understanding of the human experience.
Being a therapist also allows me to form deep connections and provide support during tough times. Helping individuals explore their inner worlds, foster better relationships, and discover their unique paths to healing and self-discovery is an honour and a source of personal joy. -
Yes, just like everyone else, I have days where I may not feel at my best. In the Internal Family Systems (IFS) context, we can think of these moments as different parts of me expressing themselves. Sometimes, certain parts may be more prominent, leading to what might be considered a 'bad hair' day. In IFS, I've understood the importance of approaching such days with curiosity and self-kindness, knowing that no part is bad. Each part within us has its unique needs and concerns, and it's all a part of our ongoing journey toward self-awareness and personal growth. So, I can remain joyful even with "bad hair"ðŸ˜

The world's most significant challenge today is the need for more empathy and understanding. Global problems like climate change and inequality require teamwork that crosses borders. It's important to remember that we all share a responsibility for a better, more harmonious, and sustainable future. This journey starts with empathy, open conversation, and a collective commitment to positive change.

Today's most pressing issue, seen through the lens of the compassion model, is the need for greater understanding and empathy worldwide. This shortage of empathy lies at the heart of many global problems, from environmental challenges to social inequalities.
We understand that everyone has unique internal aspects with their needs. Similarly, every nation and person has their viewpoints and requirements on a global scale. By nurturing compassion, we can bridge these differences and discover common ground.
By cultivating compassion and understanding, we can address global challenges together. This means acknowledging the various internal 'parts' that make up our global society and respecting their unique needs. Compassion enables constructive, empathetic discussions and cooperation to create a better world.
