Conversation With An Eight Year Old

I had an interesting conversation with an eight year old girl.

I picked her up from school, and when I asked her how her day was she replied "I'm having a sad day today"

I asked her what was making her sad and she replied "I think I'm stupid".

What makes you think that? - I asked.

I talk to the moon and the sky, she said, and that's stupid!

I don't think that's stupid at all, I said. What makes you think it's stupid?

One of the teachers at school said I must be stupid if I talk to the moon and the sky.

I said I have lots of young friends who do that and I think it's beautiful. I don't think you're stupid at all, I think you're intelligent and that you've got a great imagination and I love that.

Her face lit up and she said "So I'm not stupid then?"

She gave me a hug, looked thoughtful for a few seconds, then skipped along happily....
