Philosophy & Vision
Over the past 15 years I have worked with people from all walks of life facing many different issues in their lives. I have experience working with emotion regulation, substance use, separation, relationships and life transitions. I am a registered clinical counsellor with the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia.
My approach is person centred, humanistic and solution focused. The format of our work is flexible whereby you get to decide the content you bring, and pace at which we move through the therapeutic process. This can include struggles with everyday living, or a longer term searches for meaning, purpose and identity.
Background
With a trade background, and 6 years of tertiary study in mental health, I am equipped with a range of unique skills and experiences. A male therapist can help other men with a shared understanding of societal expectations and pressures faced by men.? People with relationship issues can gain insight from the male perspective to help them understand positive male behaviour.
I have a special interest in the concept of 'antifragility' and its relevance to recovery. I have an extensive background working within the mental health 'recovery' model of care, which advocates for living one's best life alongside experiencing mental illness. I also have an interest in existential therapy which explores the fundamental aspects of human experience.

Therapy Approach
My approach is person centred, humanistic and solution focused. The format of our work is flexible whereby you decide the content you bring, and pace at which we move. This can include struggles with everyday living, or a longer term searches for meaning, purpose and identity.
If you are seeking a more specialised treatment for anxiety and depression the gold standard evidence-based treatment is? Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) which I offer. CBT is a type of therapy that helps people learn how to identify and change unhelpful or problematic thought patterns that have an undesirable influence on their lives.

Gadamerian Hermeneutics in terms of research methodology and trying to get as close to possible to capturing the essence of human experience.

The internal experience of change.

My methods focus on the efficient and proper use of the micro skills of counselling for eliciting change. I do like to focus on the here and now in experience in the therapy.

This is difficult to say because people can present with many different issues and expectations. Often people can feel immediate relief just from talking through their presenting problem, whereas others may have other longer term struggles, learned patterns or trauma that don't have immediate solutions.
-
It has provided me the opportunity to really know myself.

I like being alongside people when they make changes for themselves in their lives, for their better.

Yes, certainly. I am just as human as the next person. My work affords me some advantage in emotional literacy but i cannot escape the difficult feelings we all have. I too must feel my feelings good, bad or otherwise.
