Philosophy & Vision

Life can feel heavy when your mind is always switched on. Many people describe a kind of tiredness that rest alone doesn’t fix - a weariness from overthinking, worry loops, and the pressure to stay “on” in an always-available world.

My work focuses on helping you step out of those loops and reconnect with what steadies you. Through evidence-based counselling and practical attention-building skills, I support adults who feel stressed, stuck, or burnt out to find more balance, calm, and clarity in daily life.

My approach is down-to-earth, compassionate, and realistic. It’s not about stopping thoughts or chasing constant calm - it’s about loosening the grip of unhelpful mental habits, creating breathing space, and allowing more of life to reach you.

If you’re ready to find steadiness again - even in the middle of life’s noise - you’re welcome to reach out for a free discovery call.

Background

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years in government and public policy, supporting community wellbeing at a systemic level. That work gave me a strong foundation in listening, problem-solving, and holding complexity.

Over time, I was drawn toward more direct, human-centred work - the kind of grounded presence that helps people feel seen, supported, and capable of real change. My counselling experience also includes volunteering with Lifeline, which continues to deepen my respect for the courage it takes to reach out, and the quiet power of simple, steady support when life feels overwhelming.

Services

  • Counselling, Walk and Talk Therapy, Coaching / Mentoring, Phone Consultations, Online Video Consultations
  • I offer flexible online counselling to adults across Australia - no GP referral needed. Sessions provide a steady, reflective space to pause, unpack what’s been weighing on you, and find practical ways to move forward.

Alongside counselling, I offer 30- and 60-minute coaching sessions drawing on structured mindfulness training - supporting clients to reclaim attention in a world of distraction and strengthen self-compassion and emotional steadiness in everyday life.

    Quality Provision

As a Level 2 member of the Australian Counselling Association, I’m committed to ethical, accountable practice.

I engage in regular expert supervision and ongoing professional development in both counselling and mindfulness teaching, so you can feel confident the support I offer is thoughtful, evidence-informed, and up to date.

    Therapy Approach

My approach is collaborative, encouraging, and skills-based. To get the most out of our time together, I may invite you to try simple daily (or near-daily) practices between sessions. These support insight, strengthen mindfulness, and help change take root in your everyday life.

Depending on your needs and interests, I offer traditional talk therapy, mindfulness coaching, or a bespoke 90-minute blend of the two for those wishing to experience the best of both worlds. I also offer 30-minute express mindfulness coaching for time or budget-conscious clients.

To help you feel steady and supported between sessions, I’m generous with resources — offering guided practices, reflection tools, and written materials.

    A conversation with Catherine Sullivan

    • Sometimes progress shows up as early as the first conversation — simply feeling heard and learning others can struggle in similar ways - can make us feel less alone and hopeful. Deeper shifts take longer, but even small steps towards clarity or ease are meaningful. One of my favourite sayings is the Tanzanian proverb: “Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”
    • I value the privilege of walking alongside people as they reconnect with their strengths, find steadiness, or see themselves with more kindness. I love the sparks of recognition and understanding people experience in session, and I’m inspired by their courage and determination to keep showing up in life — one moment at a time.
    • Ha — like today, you mean?! ‘Bad hair’ days are just as frequent as ever, but I can meet them with a little more equanimity and kindness (most of the time…).
    • Disconnection — from ourselves, from each other, and from the present moment. So much of my work is about rebuilding those connections in small, practical ways.
    • I’ve been dipping in and out of Oliver Burkman’s 4,000 Weeks and Meditations for Mortals. I love his balance of dry humour and deep research, and his challenge to step into a more meaningful, absorbing, energising life — not later, but right here in the midst of the chaos.
